How Can I Volunteer?
There are many opportunities available for volunteers in the Head Start program. Parents of Head Start children are eligible to participate on a voluntary basis in Policy Council, Parent Committee Meetings, and Service Advisory Committees, which promotes parent engagement in decision-making about their children’s learning. In addition, parent figures are always welcome to assist teaching staff in the classroom with different activities (e.g. art, reading, music, crafts, etc.), accompany children and staff on field trips, and participate in other activities and groups to promote engagement among parents. Each of these activities counts as volunteer time (“in-kind”) that contributes to our non-federal share requirement in order to maintain program funding. We strongly encourage you to take part in your child’s learning through active participation in Head Start.
For those in the community who wish to volunteer at Head Start, whether for the purpose of completing work study or internship hours, or just to lend a hand, there are many ways to become involved. There are countless opportunities to get involved with Head Start, and we want to know what skills you have to contribute to our program! Are you handy with tools? Can you play an instrument? Do you enjoy arts and crafts? If you would like more information on how you can volunteer, you can contact the Parent Engagement Coordinator at (850) 201-2050, extension 226.
