Head Start Program Community Partners

Bethel Missionary Baptist Church

  • Provides toys and clothing for 75-100 children each Christmas

Dr. Alfreda Blackshear, Pediatrician

  • Serves as Medical Consultant
  • Serves on Health Services Advisory Committee

Bond Community Health Center, Inc.

  • Provides on-site dental cleanings, screenings, exams and oral hygiene instructions
    Provides follow-up dental treatment, when necessary

Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida

  • Provides free training
  • Provides staff resources

Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region

  • Provides free training
  • Provides Class Assessments/Monitoring
  • Provides Resource Library Access

Elder Care Services, Inc.

  • Provides volunteers through the Foster Grandparents Program to assist with individualized classroom activities

Florida State University – College of Nursing

  • Provides complete physical examinations for enrollees needing exams and referrals and follow-up for further diagnosis and treatment, if necessary

Florida State University – Jump Start Program

  • Provides after school one-on-one mentoring
  • Provides training for staff and parents
  • Conducts service projects
  • Provides classroom volunteers

Franklin County Public Library

  • Provides story time and puppet shows at the Head Start Center
  • Conducts quarterly book give-away to Head Start enrollees

Gaye O’Neal Harper, CCC-SLP, Speech/Language Pathologist

  • Conducts at least one training session per center per year
  • Provides speech/language evaluations at reduced rate for children not covered by Medicaid and Local Education Agency (LEA)
  • Serves as a member of the annual Self Assessment Team
  • Serves on the Early Childhood Development and Health Services Advisory Committee-Special Services Subcommittee

Healthy Start Coalition of Jefferson, Madison & Taylor Counties

  • Refers potentially eligible families with children ages 3 to 4 to Head Start
  • Works with Head Start to assist shared families in achieving goals

Lynn James, MS, RD, LD/N, Licensed Registered Dietician

  • Develops menus
  • Conducts nutrition assessments
  • Provides family nutrition counseling
  • Serves on the Health Services Advisory Committee

Jefferson County Health Department

  • Provides on-site dental cleanings, exams and oral hygiene instructions

Jefferson County Public Library

  • Participates in transition activities, including enrollee site visits
  • Includes enrollees and families in appropriate school activities

Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend – Early Head Start

  • Transition children into Head Start
  • Provides staff to serve on CACAA Head Start’s advisory committees

Leon County Adult and Community Education

  • Provides Head Start information to GED students with pre-school age children

Leon County Extension –Family and Consumer Services Representatives

  • Provides staff/parent training and nutrition education
  • Helps plan and train staff for providing nutrition education/experiences for children
  • Serves on Self-Assessment Team
  • Provides activities for parents monthly newsletter

Leon County Health Department

  • Provides dental cleanings, exams and oral hygiene instructions

Leon County Probation Office

  • Provides central office volunteers

Leon County Sickle Cell Foundation

  • Provides screenings at no cost to children and families
  • Provides counseling and training for parents/staff

Dr. Lynn McLarty

  • Provides dental cleanings, exams and treatment

Dr. Stanley Sheppard

  • Provides dental cleanings, exams and treatment

Erica Miller, LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

  • Provides consultation and direct services to Head Start families and children
  • Provides staff training
  • Serves on the Health Services Advisory Committee

School Board of Franklin County, Florida

Local Education Agency (LEA) Agreement

  • Provides a representative at transition meetings
  • Shares resources of Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resource System
  • Evaluates some students suspected of having a disability
  • Shares parent/staff training and expenses
  • Provides land, at no cost, for Head Start center
  • Provides contracted meals for a Head Start center

School Board of Jefferson County, Florida

Local Education Agency (LEA) Agreement

  • Provides a representative at transition meetings
  • Shares resources of Florida Diagnostic and Learning System

  • Perk Up My Pantry Event – Participants receive cooking lessons and ideas from a chef, a bag full of healthy food, seasonings and cooking utensils
